Beyond the seven wonders of the world, there are some special places that I think everyone should experience if they are able to. The Colosseum in Rome, Eiffel Tower in Paris, and so on. The Grand Be of Istanbul is one of those places. For a great period of human history, people have bought and sold goods here from food to carpets. The sounds and smells, many people's wandering the wide and narrow passageways, this will not have changed over the years. Maybe it's a bit cleaner and sanitised but the key experience here is the famous and special skill and art if bartering. It's a rite of passage to go there and negotiate a price with a seller and come away with a lower price! If you come to Istanbul this is certainly one of those things to try. Naturally in any public space be aware of yourself and your surroundings, don't be lulled into a shop without a group of you. The architecture of the bazaar itself is special in its own right. Your neck may not forgive you but the arches and artwork above you as you walk around is spectacular. This is an experience that doesn't compare to going to your local supermarket and bartering might not be for everyone but go and enjoy it!

Grand bazaar / Istanbul It is known to be the oldest shopping area with more than 4000 shops in the area which means more options to look for. It is important to take time and go there because it is massive and the collection is just so good. The scarves were exquisite, the coats were different, shoes were to die for (and so were the prices) The Turkish delights is a specialty and it is a personal recommendation to buy as many boxes as you can carry. We tried apple tea in hot water and it tasted amazing. Those aren't the only flavors available. There is pomegranate, blueberry, strawberry etc. Crockery is highly recommended to buy, porcelain crockery is quite famous out there. Bargaining is a must. They will be a little rude so be prepared. At the end, as we were departing, we cooled ourselves down with fresh pomegranate juice - which is a specialty there too. There is more to Grand Bazaar but the experience of discovering that yourself is great.

I could see many leather products in this market. I wish I got here earlier because I had almost only one hour to the closing to look around. You should check the closing time before you make a plan to go here. Also, I was with my Turkish friend and I noticed that she always tried to down the price and it worked. If you are brave enough, you can haggle in this market except some stores which have real price tags:You know, some franchising retail stores or famous stores. I hope you get what you want with a reasonable price! Also, I bought a box of Turkish delight, I think it was too much. My family didn't enjoy it that much because it's too sweet. I hope this review is helpful for you guys!

This is a place of awesome. The food, the goodies to buy, the sales men know at least 10 languages. It was the best experience I have ever had. I most def would come back if given the chance again. Everyone was polite.

This place is impeccable but you really do need a whole day for it. They close early so opt to go early in the morning. I found it super fascinating. From carpets to Turkish delights to knock off brands. If you can imagine it, it’s there. The Turkish delight shops have the most generous and welcoming staff. They are so generous and so kind. They allowed us to sample ample amounts of goodies prior to purchasing. The best one I found was Reis, highly recommend it. The bazar is not very child friendly though as the kids will get bored waiting around. Great souvenir options there as well. Absolutely loved every minute of it and definitely will visit again. Highly recommend for couples, singles, family’s with older children.
